How Americans Feel About the Abortion Issue

Few issues seem to stir as much intense conflict as abortion. To find out how Americans feel about abortion, visit Public Agenda Online at http://www.publicagenda.org. Link to Issue Guides at the top of the page, then select Abortion, click on Overview, and then answer the following questions:

How do the majority of Americans feel about abortion according to surveys?

What is President Bush's stance on the abortion issue, and what kind of action has he taken since he became president?

Why has the abortion rate been declining according to the Centers for Disease Control?

Scroll up to the top of the Overview page, and from the left-hand side select Quick Takes, then select the first graph under Moral.

Did most of those surveyed consider themselves to be pro-life or pro-choice? What are the percentages for each?

Now click on your web browser's Back button, scroll down to Roe, and click on the first graph.

What percent of those surveyed would like to see the Roe v. Wade decision overturned? How do you feel about overturning this decision?

What percent of those polled believed the government should restrict the availability of abortions? How would you answer this question if you were polled today?

Click on your Back button again and scroll down the page to Gender. Click on the graph and answer the following question:

Were you surprised to see that men and women hold similar views on the legality of abortion? Why or why not?
