About the Author



Laurie Schneider Adams received a Ph.D. in Art History from Columbia University IN 1967. She is Professor of Art History at John Jay College, City University of New York, where she teaches art survey, and at the Graduate Center, where she has taught courses on the artists’ biographies and autobiographies, on the Italian Renaissance and on Art and Psychoanalysis.

Adams is the author of the two-semester art history survey text, Art across Time and of the one-semester survey, History of Western Art. She is also the author of The Methodologies of Art, Art and Psychoanalysis, Art on Trial, Key Monuments of the Baroque, Key Monuments of the Italian Renaissance, Italian Renaissance Art, Exploring the Humanities, Looking at Art, and co-author (with Maria Grazia Pernis) of Federico da Montefeltro and Sigismondo Malatesta: The Eagle and the Elephant and of Lucrezia Tornabuoni and the Medici Family in the fifteenth century. She collaborated with Allison Coudert on 5 children's books and is the co-editor with Jacques Szaluta of Psychoanalysis and the Humanities. Adams is also the editor of Giotto in Perspective and of the journal Source: Notes in the History of Art.
