For many of us, melody is the most easily identifiable and intuitive aspect of music. It's easy to quickly catch on to the idea of a musical piece through its melody, because melody is something you can sing. The highs and lows of melody are easy to identify when reading notation, through the graphic depiction of melodic contour. In this section, you'll be provided with resources on melodic concepts. You'll also be introduced to scales and modes, which influence the structure of melodies.
