The demand for music from churches, opera houses, and the aristocracy began to increase dramatically during the Baroque period. As audiences increased their interest in music and aristocrats commissioned more musical works, church music directors had to juggle organizational and educational responsibilities with the constant demand for new music. Some of the most impressive music ever created came from this period, possibly as a result of these extreme demands on musicians.
