This photograph taken of Nixon's farewell address depicts a tired president, stooped over the podium, giving a final goodbye to his cabinet. Behind him, his daughter Tricia and her husband Edward Cox offer their support. Following the implications of President Nixon's involvement in the Watergate scandal -- in which members of the Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP) were caught stealing information from the headquarters of the Democratic National Convention -- Nixon resigned from the Office of the President rather than face an impeachment trial in the Senate. This address, given at 9:30 in the morning from the East Room of the White House, was broadcast live on nationwide radio and television. As you look at this photo, pay close attention to the expressions on each of the faces in the image.
