In 1993, William Jefferson Clinton was sworn in as the forty-first President of the United States. As President, Clinton was particularly concerned with matters of cultural diversity, health care, and environmental protection. While in office, however, Clinton was plagued by scandal -- first by the Whitewater hearings and then by his highly publicized affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. He was later impeached due to charges stemming from that incident.
