Public opinion about abortion

The Gallup Organization has been conducting public opinion polls about abortion for many years. Current and historical results are available at http://www.gallup.com/poll/topics/ Gallup's Abortion Issues page, although subscription is required to view older polls and stories (or sign up for a free 30-day trial). Gallup also conducts special polls about specific abortion-related issues, such as the abortion pill. To locate these, search the site for a specific issue or scroll through recent listings on the page for Religion and Social Trends at http://www.gallup.com/poll/analyses/valueSocia/.

Number and rate of abortions in the United States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) publishes national surveillance reports on abortion that look at overall abortion statistics and at particular factors, such as age and ethnicity of mother, type of procedure, and weeks of gestation. Reports can be accessed at the CDC's Morbidity and Morality Weekly Report page (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/), and 2001 data can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss5309a1.htm.

Additional abortion statistics and information are available from the http://www.agi-usa.org Alan Guttmacher Institute.
