About the Authors
David J. Anspaugh is Chairman of the Sports Management Department at Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. He received his B.S. from Albion College, his M.S. from Eastern Michigan University, his P.E.D. from Indiana University and Ed.D. from the University of Tennessee. He is a certified Fitness/Wellness instructor from the American College of Sports Medicine. In addition to being widely published in scholarly refereed journals, he is co-author of Developing Health Promotion Programs, also published by McGraw-Hill. He has served as Southern District AAHPERD president, is a member of the AAHE board, the CHES board, and a recipient of the Robert Kirk Distinguished Doctoral Alumni Award from the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Michael Hamrick is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences at The University of Memphis. He began his tenure at The University of Memphis 37 years ago as an instructor in health and physical education. Following completion of his doctorate in health education from The University of Tennessee Knoxville he returned to Memphis to serve as Division Head of the Division of Health and Safety. He taught most of the courses in the health education program specializing in pedagogy, health content, and assessment and evaluation. He was recipient of The University of Memphis’ Distinguished Teaching Award in 1978 and 1990, the College of Education Earl Crader Professorship Award, the University College Advising Award, the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Scholar Award, and the Robert Kirk Distinguished Doctoral Alumni Award from the University of Tennessee. He has published in a number of professional journals and is coauthor of Wellness: Concepts and Applications, now in its sixth edition. In 2001 he was named Fellow of the American Association for Health Education. His service to the profession includes committee and chair assignments of committees at the state, regional, and national levels. He is a former vice president of the health division and member of the board of directors of the SDAAHPERD.
Frank D. Rosato is Professor of Physical Education in the Department of Human Movement Sciences and Education at the University of Memphis. He received his B.S. in physical education from Troy State University and his M.S. and Ed.D. degrees in health, physical education, and recreation from the University of Tennessee. He has more than 30 years' teaching experience and has received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Memphis and the Troy State Centennial Distinguished Teaching Award. He teaches courses in health promotion and exercise science.
