About the Author
Jean Kinney, M.S.W., is a lecturer in Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. Her work as Associate Director of the Alcohol Counselor Training Program at Dartmouth, from 1972 to 1978, was the impetus for writing Loosening the Grip. Next she joined Project Cork, a program designed to develop and implement a model curriculum for medical student education. For her accomplishments in translating scientific work into clinical practice, Jean Kinney was honored as the first recipient of the NIAAA’s Sen. Harold Hughes Award in 1999.
