Revision Changes
The substantially revised chapter on gender includes a new discussion of recurrent gender patterns and systematic cross-cultural comparison.
Additional significant updates and revisions have been made to the chapters on ethnicity and race (Ch. 4), kinship and descent (Ch. 8), religion (Ch. 10), and the modern world system (Ch. 11).
Material has been reorganized for better flow: the previous edition's applied anthropology chapter is now incorporated into Chapter 1; the Methods section has been moved from Ch. 1 into a new Chapter 2, "In the Field"; the chapter on political systems now directly follows "Making a Living" (Ch. 6); and "Families, Kinship, and Marriage" (Ch. 8) now follows the chapter on political systems, to form a unit with the chapter on gender (Ch. 9).
