Exercise 23.5 (31.0K)

Write a game story based on the following information, which is from an Associated Press story.
     Dateline—Orlando, Fla.
Louisiana State's Nick Saban coached his last LSU game in the Capital One Bowl before taking his new job as coach of the NFL's Miami Dolphins.
     No. 11 Iowa beat Saban's no. 12 Tigers 30-25.
The Hawkeyes had a 14-12 lead at the half. LSU rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns, the second one coming from 46 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 25-24 lead. The two-point conversion pass failed.
LSU freshman JaMarcus Russel came off the bench to lead the Tiger's fourth-quarter surge. He threw two touchdown passes to Skyler Green. The first one—a 22 yarder—came with 8:21 left in the game and cut the Iowa lead, after the point-after kcik, to 24-19. The second touchdown pass was a three yarder.
     Iowa finished the season 10-2.
     LSU finished 9-3.
Iowa won the game with no time remaining when Drew Tate threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Warren Holloway on the final play of the game. Holloway, a fifth-year senior, scored the first touchdown of his career.
On the game's final drive, Tate completed two passes before a penalty pushed Iowa back to its 44 yard line with 14 seconds remaining in the contents. On the next play, Tate hit Halloway, who was left wide open because of broken coverage. He caught the ball without breaking his stride on the 10-yard line and sprinted into the end zone as time expired.
Saban, standing on the LSU sideline, threw up his arms in frustration.
The entire Iowa team staged a mob scene in the end zone.
Iowa coach Kirk Feretz, who had turned down overtures from the NFL, led his Hawkeyes to their eighth straight win of the season. And it marked the third consecutive year Iowa had won 10 or more games under Ferentz.
The win over LSU was not Iowa's only nail biter of the year; four of the Hawkeye wins had come by a total of 11 points.
LSU—except for the fourth-quarter rally—struggled on offense and looked sloppy on special times.
Saban had announced his resignation one week before the game.
Saban finished 48-16 in five years at LSU. Hi led the team to a bowl game every season and to the BCS national championship in 2003.
Direct quotation from Saban: "You always dislike losing a game, especially losing a game like this…. The last 14 or 20 seconds of this game somewhat tarnish the things that this team has accomplished in its four years.
I only feel badly that I could not do more to help the players play better. Mental errors are a terrible way to lose, because that means the other guy didn't really physically beat you. You really beat yourself…. This has probably been the best experience I've ever had as a coach—the five years I spent at LSU. Call them golden years or whatever for me. I hope they were good years for everyone else."
Direct quotation from quarterback Tate: "I thought I overthrew him (Holloway). Once Warren caught it, he wasn't going down.
Direct quotation from Ferentz: "I don't know if you could write a better script. Nobody would believe it if you did."
Saban flew back to Baton Rouge with his team and planned to head for Miami on Monday.
As he left the field to head to the exit at the conclusion of the game, Saban doubled back to wave to fans. There was modest applause and a few boos.
Here is the scoring summary and final statistics:
