As a teacher you need to understand societal changes that are affecting teaching and learning. In this chapter we look at a few: how population is changing, how the family is changing, how the nature of childhood and youth is changing, and, how school is changing. To the extent you understand these four areas of change and are able to take them into account, you should be able to improve your students’ chances for success and your professional satisfaction.
