The seventh edition of Essentials of Math With Business Applications is a comprehensive revision of the Essentials of Business Math, sixth edition. While retaining the emphasis on preparing students to be successful in today's workforce and in everyday life, the authors have focused attention on applications in a business environment and on reinforcement by increasing the number of problems and business applications. Essentials of Math With Business Applications is designed to be user friendly for students and instructors.

Purpose

The goal of this program is to assist students in achieving the Learning Objectives stated for each Skillbuilder by:

Reviewing the fundamentals of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through practice with computations involving whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percents.


Relating the students' computational skills to typical business transactions involving interest, discount, payroll, depreciation, retail selling, checking accounts, and stocks.


Developing students' ability to use shortcut methods and to work with speed and accuracy.


Developing students' awareness and usage of the latest business technologies.

Developing students' study skills through Student Success Hints. This text has been designed so that it can be used by students who are working on an individual basis as well as by students who are being instructed as a group.

Organization

The text is organized in seven units with seven to eleven Skillbuilders per unit. Each Skillbuilder states the expected Learning Objectives and introduces a new mathematical skill using easy-to-read and easy-to-comprehend explanations. Skillbuilders contain Math Tips, Calculator Tips, and Student Success Hints. Many Skillbuilders also include Business Applications for the skill introduced. The Learning Outcomes and explanations are followed by exercises that include problems and application activities. The problems are arranged to progress from the simple to the more complex. Since the ultimate goal is to apply these skills in life and in the workforce, Business Applications are included in most Skillbuilders. Because of the stated objectives, the clear and concise explanations and the integration of Business Applications, this text is flexible and can be used in individual or group situations. In addition, the text benefits students at multiple mathematical skill levels. The text has been designed to help students make successful school-to-work transitions.
