What's New?

  • A brand-new design provides an up-to-date, contemporary look for the Second Edition.
  • A new two-page cultural feature called Vistazos culturales, which appears in the Lección preliminar, every third lesson, and the Lección final, examines a particular topic (e.g., daily life, food, art and literature, and so on) from a variety of Hispanic cultural perspectives. Students explore each topic through maps, charts, photos, brief explanations, and follow-up activities that highlight similarities and differences throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
  • New lesson-culminating activities called Intercambio in the first two lessons of each unit, and an improved Situación activity in the last, offer students opportunities to use the vocabulary and grammar presented in each lesson in an exciting lesson-ending task. Situación activities may require use of the vocabulary and grammar from previous lessons as well.
  • At the request of many reviewers, Unit 5 has been completely revised and now focuses on the themes of people, personalities, and expressing one's own personality.
  • The Los hispanos hablan sections now appear as integral parts of each lesson along with their corresponding pre- and post-viewing activities.
  • The Video is now available on CD or in VHS and now includes six new video segments called Vamos a ver that examine particular unit themes and include new interviews shot on location in Latin America with native Spanish speakers. The Los hispanos hablan testimonials from the first edition have been retained in the second edition video for convenient use in the classroom.
  • A fully revised interactive CD-ROM contains activities and games that students can use to practice the grammar, vocabulary, and culture presented in each lesson of the textbook.
  • An updated Online Manual, developed in conjunction with Quia™ and delivered over the Internet, is a unique and interactive practice tool to accompany Vistazos. Carefully integrated with the textbook, this robust online version of the print supplement is easy for students to use and great for instructors who want to manage students' coursework online.
  • New Online Textbook Activities. This new product, developed in conjunction with Quia™ and delivered over the Internet, contains online versions of select activities from the printed textbook. Instructors are encouraged to assign these activities (identified by the Quia™ logo in the textbook) for work outside of class to save time for the more communicative activities in the classroom. The Online Textbook Activities offer the same robust environment and automatic feedback to students and utilize the same Instructor Workstation with gradebook and class roster system as the Online Manual.
  • Minor changes to the sequence of grammar provide a more evenly balanced coverage of structures within and across lessons.
  • Finally, the activities and content have been revised to keep the text fresh and up-to-date for the many loyal users of its task-based approach.
