E-commerce, in which people with access to the Internet do business from their computers, is a major trend in today's economy. What sorts of rules does an e-commerce business need to put in place to be successful? Are they the same as those that underlie traditional businesses? You can think about and investigate these issues by visiting the site of a very well known e-commerce business, eBay (www.ebay.com/).

Click on the link to Policies at the bottom of the page. Read through the information there, and answer these questions:
  1. What, do you imagine, are the risks that buyers and sellers take when making an exchange through a website such as eBay?
  2. How does eBay ensure that buyers are dealing with honest merchants?
  3. What is the role of feedback, and what kinds of warnings does eBay make regarding feedback abuse?
  4. What is the purpose of ID Verify?
  5. Having read through the eBay policy section, to what extent to you believe these policies are needed in traditional businesses as well? Why or why not?
