  • Four advantages to remember about Computer Accounting with QuickBooks 2005:
    1) The author walks the student through the process of setting up a company in QuickBooks in a step-by-step manner allowing the student to learn QB without requiring as much assistance from their instructor.
    2) The text uses two running examples, a sole proprietorship, and one corporation, to give the student a real world context for learning QuickBooks.
    3) The annotated illustrations make it easier for students to follow the text and understand what they need to do.
    4) The rich variety of end-of-chapter projects and assignments give the students hands-on learning and reinforce the important tasks required to use the software.
  • A site license for QuickBooks 2005 software can be obtained directly from Intuit, the producers of QuickBooks software. Information on how to obtain this site license is available on the book web site, as well as in the Instructor's Resource Manual.
  • This text is designed for use as an Online QuickBooks course, so Instructors can easily create an Online Course using PageOut.
  • For both currency and flexibility, “Using Word and Excel with QuickBooks” and “Online Features of QuickBooks”, will be covered in their own appendices.
  • Screen shots highlight important chapter material. This makes it easy for students to learn at their computer, and also to study and review concepts away from a computer.
  • Computer Accounting with QuickBooks 2005 captures students' interest by putting them in the role of an accountant for a small business. Students learn the QuickBooks software while completing assignments for the company owner.
  • Abundant End-of-Chapter Material continues with the student in the role of accountant by providing additional assignments from the president of the company. These assignments range from entering transactions to generating complex reports and financial statements. Internet assignments in each chapter connect to web sites with useful information for small business accounting.
  • Fearless Paint Company is an integrated example used throughout the second half of the book where the student assumes the role of small business owner. The company starts out as a sole proprietorship, then grows and becomes a merchandising corporation. This building block approach is used to gradually introduce students to new concepts, while maintaining the continuity and interest in the company.
  • In Section 2, there are two comprehensive projects in each chapter that review concepts and provide students practice in setting up businesses. Appendix B presents a comprehensive project as a capstone for the course. This project guides the student through the process of using QuickBooks for a real company, from setting up the chart of accounts, to creating memorized reports.
