Greetings. Thanks for stopping by.

First, let me thank you for inflicting The Newspaper Designer's Handbook on your students. Back when I was a student -- back in the Stone Age -- we didn't have any fancypants design handbooks. Heck, "newspaper design" hadn't even been INVENTED yet, so we just fumbled around in a drunken stupor until we blew either our deadlines or our lunches.

Ahh, the good old days. But I digress. Where was I?

My editor, Phil Butcher, is eager to hear your comments about the CD included with the fifth edition of The Newspaper Designer's Handbook. That CD -- an assortment of student exercises -- is still a work in progress and may be jazzed up for future printings. So if you have questions or suggestions, please contact Phil at phil_butcher@mcgraw-hill.com.

On this Web site, you'll find links to my favorite online newspapers. I wish that list was longer, but the industry is currently in a creative and financial slump. To be honest, many online newspapers were actually better-designed a few years ago than they are today. And until Web sites prove more profitable somehow, online design may continue to struggle.

But stay tuned. I'll update my list every few months, if I can remember to. Thanks again for using The Newspaper Designer's Handbook. And if you have comments or quibbles about the book, send them along to Phil, too.

Yours for better journalism,

Tim Harrower
