After completing this chapter, you should be able to
1.
Define capacitance and apply a relationship among capacitance, applied voltage, and total charge.
2.
Compute the capacitance of a parallel-plate capacitor when the area of the plates and their separation in a medium of known dielectric constant are given.
3.
Write and apply expressions for calculating the dielectric constant as a function of the voltage, the electric field, or the capacitance before and after insertion of a dielectric.
4.
Calculate the equivalent capacitance of a number of capacitors connected in series and in parallel.
5.
Determine the energy of a charged capacitor, given the appropriate information.
