After completing this chapter, you should be able to
1.
Explain and calculate the current or emf induced by a conductor moving through a magnetic field.

Write and apply an equation relating the induced emf in a length of wire moving with a velocity v directed at an angle q with a known B field.
3.
State Lenz's law and use it or the right-hand rule to determine the direction of induced emf or current.
4.
Explain the operation of simple ac and dc generators; calculate the instantaneous and maximum emf or current generated by a simple ac generator.
5.
Demonstrate with diagrams your knowledge of series-wound and shunt-wound motors and solve the starting current and operating voltage in electrical problems.
6.
Explain the operation of a transformer and solve problems involving change in current, voltage, or power.
