Ralph Larsen, former Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson, was quoted in this chapter concerning the use of the Internet. Johnson & Johnson has been one of America’s premier companies for decades and has exhibited a high level of social responsibility around the world. Go to the Johnson & Johnson Web site at www.jnj.com.

  1. Under Our Credo, click on “View Our Credo.”
  2. In the “Select by Biography” box, scroll down and click on the United States and then click on Go.
  3. You should see the Credo in English. If English is not your native language or you want to practice your second language, click on another region in the world that speaks your language. After you have read the Credo, explain in one paragraph why the Credo is helpful to the company’s employees and customers.
  4. Return to the prior page and go to the “Investor Relations” option. Then click on “Annual Reports and Proxy.” Next click on the first listed annual report.
  5. Select “Financials,” click on “Consolidated Financial Statements.” Scroll down, record the values of the following for the two years shown, and compute the percentage change between the two years. The numbers are in millions of dollars.
    1. Total assets.
    2. Total stockholders’ equity.
    3. Sales to customers (last two years).
    4. Net earnings (last two years).
  6. Generally speaking, is Johnson & Johnson growing by more or less than 10 percent per year?
