About the Authors



JOHN ELLIS PRICE is professor of accounting and vice provost of the University of North Texas ( UNT ) Dallas Campus. Dr. Price has previously held positions of professor and assistant professor, as well as chair and dean, at the University of North Texas , Jackson State University , and the University of Southern Mississippi . Dr. Price has also been active in the Internal Revenue Service as a member of the Commissioner's Advisory Group for two terms, and as an Internal Revenue agent.

Professor Price is a certified public accountant who has twice received the UNT College of Business Administration's Outstanding Teaching Award, and the university's President's Council Award. Majoring in accounting, he received his BBA and MS degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi , and his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of North Texas . Dr. Price is a member of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Accounting Association, the American Taxation Association (serving as past chair of the Subcommittee on Relations with the IRS and Treasury), and currently acts as chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Minority Initiatives and is a member of the Foundation Trustees. 

M. DAVID HADDOCK, JR., is currently professor of accounting and associate vice president at Chattanooga State Technical Community College in Tennessee . Over the past 30 years, Professor Haddock has served in faculty and administrative roles at Auburn University at Montgomery , the University of Alabama in Birmingham , West Georgia College , and Chattanooga State Technical Community College . He received a teaching excellence award from the University of Texas in 1991.

Professor Haddock was elected vice president of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants in 2005 after serving on the board of directors and as the Chattanooga TSCPA chapter president. 

HORACE BROCK is director of International Programs in the Institute of Petroleum Accounting , and is distinguished professor emeritus from the University of North Texas . At UNT , he served as chairman of the Department of Accounting and was also director of international programs and director of oil and gas programs for UNT 's Professional Development Institute. His teaching experience includes visiting professorships at Ohio State University , University of Arkansas , and Arizona State University.

Professor Brock's professional activities include being chairman of, and consultant to, the Financial Accounting Standards Board's Task Force on Accounting for the Extractive Industries, and serving on the FASB task force on disclosures in the financial reports of petroleum companies. He has been a member of the SEC 's Oil and Gas Accounting Committee, and presently he is a member of the AICPA's Task Force to Revise the Accounting and Auditing Guide for Oil and Gas Producing Companies.
