Design of Machinery, 4/e

Robert Norton, Worcester Polytechnic Institution

ISBN: 0073121584
Copyright year: 2008

Robert Norton's DESIGN OF MACHINERY 4/e continues the tradition of this bestselling book by emphasizing the design aspects of mechanisms and providing numerous industry examples and illustrations for readers. Norton provides a solid conceptual foundation for the kinematics and dynamics of machinery, presented in the context of what a design engineer needs to work with.

The new 4/e has over 80 new problems and project assignments. All of the problem figures are included as PDF files on a DVD so students can easily print hard copies to work solutions on. The entire Hrones and Nelson Atlas of Coupler Curves is provided as PDFs on the DVD.

The major addition to the 4/e are the 18 instructional videos on the DVD. These videos provide lecture/demonstration tutorials on subjects such as position synthesis, coupler curves and cognates, the Grashof condition, etc. Also provided are two “virtual laboratories,” that replicate the labs used in the author’s courses at WPI.

The fourth edition comes with a bound-in Student Resources DVD, with Norton's own student-version programs, an extensive group of Working Model simulations (by Sid Wang, North Carolina A&T University), additional Working Model examples, and the Design-Simulation Working Model Textbook Edition. The Working Model 2D Textbook Edition (WM) program is included on the DVD, but it is not a full-featured version of the program. Detailed solutions to all chapter problems and project assignments are available to instructors on this website under password protection.
