About the Author

David Herbert Lawrence (1885—1930) was born in Nottingshamshire England and studied at University College there. He became, for a while, a schoolteacher but left teaching to devote full time to his writing, which flowed in abundance from his pen. Best known for his novels, such as Lady Chatterly’s Lover, Women in Love, and Sons and Lovers, Lawrence also published poetry, travel books, essays, and criticism. He traveled extensively and lived in Italy and Mexico as well as in England. His work is firmly anchored in the locales in which he lived and deals powerfully with natural forces, including sexuality.
