About the Author

Susan Glaspell (1882—1948), an American novelist and playwright, was one of the cofounders of the Provincetown Players, an influential theatrical company. With her husband, George Cram Cook, she collaborated on a number of plays, including her one-act satire of Freudian psychoanalysis, Suppressed Desires, published in 1916. In the same year Glaspell produced another fine one-act play, Trifles, which has continued to be her most frequently performed play.
