    Internet Exercise: Go to the website (www.arsoncontrol.org) and summarize the main group of individuals who commit this crime (including ages, race, etc.)

  3. Larceny can have different elements.

    Internet Exercise: Go to the website (www.albany.edu/sourcebook) and briefly state what main elements have to be present to have crime be called a larceny.

  4. In this chapter Auto Theft is mentioned as a major crime problem in the U.S.

    Internet Exercise: Go to website (www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/rob.htm) and find out if robbery trends are going down.

  5. Internet Exercise: A web site entitled No Nonsense Self Defense provides a practical guide to defending against being victimized by property crime. This organization describes a "pyramid of personal safety." Take a look at this "pyramid" by going to: (www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/pyramid.html)

    1. Outline the pyramid of personal safety, including a brief description of each level in the "pyramid."

  6. An emerging area of concern in terms of property crime in the United States involves computer crime. A new section of the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice has been created to deal with computer and intellectual property crime: the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS). The CCIPS maintains its own web site, appropriately labeled "cybercrime.gov." (www.cybercrime.gov/)

    Internet Exercise: After you have accessed the home page and examined its contents, look at the right-hand portion of your screen - there, you can access a videotape of U.S. Attorney General Ashcroft's remarks about computer crime. If your equipment is incapable of playing the actual videotape, you can access a transcript of Mr. Ashcroft's remarks. After you have seen and listened to the tape, or read his remarks, respond to the following:

    1. Briefly summarize Attorney General Ashcroft's comments about computer crime.
    2. How might YOU be affected by computer crime?
