Native American Music is very “function” driven. What functions were supported by or illustrated through, their music? What types of “function driven” music exists in the European American tradition? Are any of the “Functions” the same between the two? Which?

The button accordion is an integral part of both Louisiana Cajun, and South Texas Conjunto music of the Tejano people. We see the same instrument as far North as Minnesota where German, Polish and Scandinavian Americans enjoy dancing to their own unique form of Polka Music. What is it about this instrument that makes it so popular with such a diverse population of people? Is it the cost? Is it the portability or the sound or perhaps the level of skill required? Research and explain please.
