Shere Hite mailed 100,000 questionnaires to several women's groups (e.g., feminist organizations, church women's organizations) in several states (Time, October 12, 1987). After obtaining an initial response rate of about 1,500, she attempted to acquire other participants to fill in demographic gaps. In response to criticism that her sample was not representative, Hite said, "It's 4,500 people. That's enough for me" (Time, October 12, 1987, p. 71).

Evaluate Hite's claim that 4,500 respondents is "good enough." Based on the discussion of the problem of biased samples in the text, do you agree or disagree with this statement? Justify your agreement or disagreement.
