Assessment is a critical part of both the debate and the substance of school reform issues today. This chapter presents some history of the standards and accountability movements, as well as the arguments for and against standardized testing and the arguments for the use of multiple forms of assessment. Further, suggestions are made for a model of supportive assessment.
