  1. Talk about the human impulse to create art and support it with examples.
  2. Understand the rudimentary reasons for studying art and art history.
  3. Explore the nature, meaning, and importance of "creativity."
  4. Name the conditions under which art flourishes or declines in a civilization.
  5. Understand some reasons why artists create works of art.
  6. Discuss the qualifications for how someone can be considered an artist.
  7. Discuss the functions that works of art in your local environment fulfill.
  8. Explain how artists sometimes help to make history, as well as sometimes recording it.
  9. Understand what factors make a work of art valuable in different ways to different people.
