In addition to being able to recognize the key terms, artists, and artworks in the chapter, you should be able to:
  1. Discuss the ways in which viewers can respond differently to a three-dimensional work than to a two-dimensional work.
  2. Explain the differences between modeling, casting, carving, and assembling techniques.
  3. Discuss how knowing the story behind an artist or a work of art can change a viewer's perceptions of the work.
  4. Analyze the different visions of the human figure in sculptures through time and across cultures.
  5. Recognize the sculptural works that exist in your local environment, and understand their meanings and contexts.
  6. Recognize the sculptural qualities that we find in utilitarian objects that we use daily.
  7. Explain how contemporary artists make installations with meanings dependent on their site, or place.
