Electronic Index

This electronic index contains all of the items in the printed index plus a good deal more. It provides entries for virtually all of the terms and phrases that have been used to illustrate specific rules in the manual—items far too numerous to fit in a printed index. Now you can search not only for a particular rule but also for specific words and phrases governed by that rule. The index will be updated from time to time. Please check the GRM Web site periodically for the most recent version.

Expanded Treatment of E-Mail

The four-page discussion of e-mail in the ninth edition now receives a detailed fifteen-page treatment. Among other things, it addresses the commonly asked question of whether e-mail messages have to follow the same rules that apply to other business documents. In view of the importance of e-mail in today's business world, this topic has been advanced to Section 13 to take its proper place alongside the discussion of letters and memos.

Expanded Discussion of Electronic Sources

The tenth edition offers an expanded discussion of how to cite source materials that appear online. Gregg gives precise guidelines on how to construct footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographic entries that refer to online books, magazines, journals, and newspapers as well as e-mail messages and other electronic sources. The manual suggests precautions to observe when citing electronic material (which can suddenly change, move to a new location, or completely disappear). Also included in the tenth edition are some basic guidelines on how to avoid plagiarism.

Expanded Patterns for Footnotes and Endnotes

In addition to the patterns for citing electronic sources, the tenth edition now provides models for citing material derived from personal interviews and conversations, television and radio interviews, speeches and papers read at professional meetings, as well as reports, letters, and memos.

Updated Glossary of Computer Terms

The updated, 25-page glossary of computer terms has been moved from the manual to this Web site, where it can be readily expanded as new terms come into widespread use. You can download this glossary and install it on your computer.

Expanded Treatment of Style, Grammar, Usage, and Formatting

On the basis of questions raised by readers of the previous edition, the tenth edition offers expanded coverage of the fine points—those problems that occur infrequently but cause a great deal of trouble when they do. It is this expanded coverage of the fine points that distinguishes Gregg from comparable works and makes it possible for readers to find answers that they cannot find anywhere else.

The text has also been updated to reflect changes in style and format created by continually evolving computer technology. New terms and phrases appear in the examples to reflect how people now speak and write, and a number of controversial issues concerning usage have received a fresh treatment.

Enhanced Support for Trainers and Instructors

A new component of the Gregg program is a resource manual that focuses on the special needs of corporate training personnel and independent training consultants. Trainers will find specific recommendations on what material to cover in the manual and the worksheets in light of the number of hours specified by the client.

A new feature of the resource manual for instructors shows them how to create effective courses of varying duration based on the Gregg manual and a set of the worksheets.

A new feature of both resource manuals is the inclusion of graphic materials—PowerPoint slides on a CD-ROM and transparency masters—that can be effectively used to introduce and reinforce the key topics presented throughout the Gregg manual.
