Date rape is so serious an issue on college campuses that many peer groups have been organized to educate their fellow students about rape. This clip interviews several campus activists about how social and cultural attitudes can contribute to a 'sick mentality' that leads to rape.
Can traditional sexual scripts contribute to rape? The students you will see describe how cultural stereotypes of men as powerful and violent, and women as weak or unable to say no, can create situations of disrespect. It is that disrespect, or dehumanization, that these activists see as key to the mentality behind rape.
