Most fetuses develop gonads in their sixth week; girls will develop ovaries and boys will develop testes. But this fails to happen in intersexuality cases and the child’s gender is indeterminante. Even though a person’s hormones may clearly spell out one or the other gender, their genitalia have not developed in a matching way. Experts say it may be easier to reconstruct a girl’s anatomy than a boy’s.
