Fundamentals of Taxation trains tomorrow’s tax preparers to handle the complex United States tax law and the trillions in taxes that will be paid each year. Students will master individual income tax preparation through hands-on experience with real tax forms and tax preparation software.
Text Organization Closely Follows IRS Tax Forms.
Students are introduced to standard IRS forms early and use them throughout the text. Actual tax forms are incorporated throughout the text, giving students the opportunity to learn how to work with clients to obtain the information they will need, while understanding the principles behind tax law.
Illustrates the Proper Reporting of Tax Issues.
Cruz presents a tax issue, discusses the law requirements, illustrates the proper tax form placement, and shows the completed form in the text. Students are carefully guided through each issue, so they can see how tax form preparation is the result of a careful process that balances legal knowledge with practical experience using tax forms.
Integrates Professional Tax Software Package.
Cruz comes packaged with free TaxACT software, and integrates this software into the text and examples. Students will learn how to use the software, and practice completing returns as they would in the real world. An instructor can choose to rely heavily on the software, incorporate the software only after covering the law and the reporting, or de-emphasize the software component, allowing for maximum flexibility.
