Errata for Kelton, Sadowski, and Swets, Simulation with Arena, 5th edition, McGraw-Hill, 2010

Which of the following errata apply to your copy of the book depends on which printing of the book you have.  To determine which printing you have, look on the copyright page near the front of the book (the one with the McGraw-Hill logo on the upper left) and about a third of the way down the page you'll find a line with a string of numbers like 1 2 3 4 ... or 2 3 4 5 ... or 3 4 5 6 ... -- the first digit in this string is the printing that you have.

• Where line numbers are used for a position on a page, we count all titles for chapters, sections, subsections, etc., but do not count the running head at the top of the page (with the page number), or captions or content for Figures, Tables, or Displays. Negative line numbers indicate that we are counting up from the bottom (e.g., line –1 is the last line, line –2 is the next-to-last line, etc.).

• Yellow highlighting indicates a file rather than material in the text; where appropriate click on file names to download modified or new files.

The following apply to the first printing (all of these corrections are made for the second printing):

p. 243	Line 20	Replace "shown" with "show".
p. 258	Figure 5-24, top left corner	The Create block symbol in the upper left should be replaced with an Outputs element symbol, with these two lines of text just below it:     Total Ordering Cost / Days to Run     OVALUE(Avg Ordering Cost) + DAVG(Holding Cost) + DAVG(Shortage Cost)
p. 269	Second line after the table	Delete "not" just inside the left parenthesis.
p. 269	Exercise 5-13, last line	Add "over an eight-hour day" to the end of this last sentence.
p. 271	Last line on page	Replace "vales" with "values".
p. 299	Exercise 6-21, line 3	After "cost" add "per hour".
p. 299	Exercise 6-24, line 5	Replace "your own decision about the number of" with "20".
p. 300	Line 4	Replace "apparently the most heavily utilized" with "virtually tied (with nurses) for the heaviest utilization".
p. 432	Lines 2, 3, and 4 in Display 10-21	Add "(" just before MyDesitnation in each of these three rows.
p. 603	Entire page	There are 12 missing mathematical symbols (ten instances of a subscript "l" [letter 'el'], and two ">" signs) on this page.  Please click here [PDF file, 523K] for the corrected page; corrections are in red.  p. 603 (523.0K)
