Supplements

Instructor’s OLC
All supplements will be available exclusively on the OLC. The following materials will be available on the OLC:

  • EZ Test: To help instructors meet the requirements of AACSB, all questions have been tied to the Learning Outcomes in the text.
  • PowerPoints: BDIS offers two sets of traditional PowerPoint slides – one for instructors and one for students. The instructor edition comes complete with detailed teaching notes on each slide that offers discussion topics, classroom questions, and instructor points.
  • Instructor’s Manual: In addition to in-depth coverage of chapter content, the authors have provided many engaging classroom exercises that challenge students to apply the material they are learning. For example, if you are teaching systems development start off the class with the “Skyscraper Activity” where the students build a prototype that takes them through each phase of the systems development life cycle. If you are working on tying information technology to business begin your class with the “Magazine Exercise” where students place Post-It Notes on technology articles in popular business magazines clearly demonstrating that technology is everywhere in business. An Instructors Manual is also provided for the videos that correspond to this text.
  • Business Driven Teaching Notes: The Business Driven Teaching Notes is a comprehensive Excel spreadsheet containing over 150 additional classroom activities, discussion questions, and video clips. You can also turn any of the classroom activities into additional assignments and use the discussion questions for your online courses.  You can use the business driven teaching notes to customize your lectures.  Each topic in the text is represented by a tab in the workbook. Simply choose the activities you wish to use in your class, reorder based on your lecture, and hide any you do not want to use.  Then you can easily print your detailed lecture notes straight from the worksheet.
  • Audio Solution Files: A complete set of narrated solution files for all Excel, Access, and Web development projects. These files provide narrated step-by-step detail for each project. These are a great aid to help instructors quickly understand questions and can be posted for students to review, saving Instructor time with case reviews.
  • Video Exercises: Each of the videos that accompany the text is supported by detailed teaching notes on how to turn the videos into classroom exercises.
  • Videos: All videos connected to the text will be downloadable from the instructor side of the OLC.
  • MIS Forum: A collaborative site where faculty from around the U.S. can post material, ask questions, and find classroom resources. Instructors may register at www.baltzanandphillips.com/MIS/ to access additional supplement materials including classroom activities, exercises, current topics, video clips, additional case information, author discussions, and more.
  • Cohesion Case: The Broadway Café is a semester-long case that helps students tie all of the IT concepts together. The case will give students a true business approach to IT and allow them to work hands-on with many of the intangible concepts in the text. It will also help them to tie all of the IT concepts together to see how they work to help a business operate. The flexibility of the case allows you to cover any number of topics in any order at any time during the semester.

OLC content is ancillary and supplementary germane to the textbook, as students read the book, they can go online to take self-grading quizzes, review material, or work through interactive exercises. OLCs can be delivered multiple ways – professors and students can access them directly through the textbook website, through PageOut, or within a course management system (i.e. WebCT, Blackboard, TopClass, or eCollege.)
