Today, our lives are dependent on petroleum in some form or another. Almost all of us drive cars that rely on oil to run. Hybrid cars, and other fuel-efficient vehicles, consume less fuel than other cars, but still depend on oil. As fuel becomes scarce, and as the need to restrict carbon emissions increases, fuel prices are likely to increase. What should be the solution?

Investigate alternative fuels on these websites:

http://www.americansolarchallenge.org/
http://www.winstonsolar.org/info/intro.html

Now, answer the following questions:
  1. Should people be looking for alternatives to oil? Why?
  2. Of these alternatives, which looks the most promising? The least promising? Why?
  3. If you could choose an alternative fuel not listed in those web pages, what would you choose? Why should people look to this particular form of energy?
