Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) are organizations whose members are countries, usually organized either regionally or globally. For this exercise, first pick any country in the world, and then research that country drawing on information found in the World Factbook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/index.html) and your own internet searches, develop a list of ten organizations of which your country is a member. Which of these organizations is the best asset for your country? Then, pick a list of another four organizations that you would like your country to join; develop reasons why this would be beneficial to both your country and the organization which might consider accepting your application for membership. (Note: if done as a class, this simulation may include negotiations between students on joining various organizations.) |
