What's New?
For the 2008 edition of Fundamentals of Taxation, the Cruz author team has made
significant enhancements to the textbook and to the online supplements. Most
notably, instructors now have the option of an Enhanced Cartridge for BlackBoard
or WebCT (see page xiiv of the Preface), and students can access additional online
quizzing questions on the book’s Online Learning Center. For the first
time, iPod content (including narrated Powerpoints and online quizzes) is also
available with Fundamentals of Taxation. In addition, new multiple choice questions
have been added to each chapter, along with revised problems and discussion questions.
All chapters and tax forms have been updated for new tax law, making them
current through September of 2007. Other updates beyond September can be found
on the book’s Online Learning Center, www.mhhe.com/cruz2008.
These specific enhancements have been made to individual chapters:
• The change in exemption amounts for AGI is reflected in chapter
2.
• The IRS Publication 17 flowchart in chapter 2 has been updated for changes
in 2007.
• Health Savings Account changes have been reflected in chapter 3.
• Coverage of educator expenses and tuition and fees deductions has been
added to chapter 4, including new concept checks and examples.
• Changes to State and Local tax deductions and mortgage insurance deductions
have been reflected in chapter 5.
• Additional exceptions to charitable contributions of personal property
and long-term capital gain property are now included in chapter 5.
• A table has been added to chapter 7 outlining specific definitions of
basis.

of stock purchased in blocks, inherited property and gift transactions.

Energy Credits has been added to chapter 9.
• More information is provided for the Electronic Funds Transfer Payment
System in chapter 10.
