Chapter 5 - Online Research: Avoiding Pitfalls

So you've done some preliminary research on your issue, and you've conducted a focus group in order to get deeper into the issues. Now it's time to delve even deeper, and get more expert testimony, in order to help support your stance. Chapter 5 discusses many ways in which to gather information about your topic, and specifically talks about using internet resources to find information. It is very important when using the internet, to use it wisely. For example, Wikipedia is a useful source of background information, but it is not a credible source, and should never be cited in any work you do for school. Why? Because Wikipedia is written by experts and non-experts alike, and misinformation can easily appear on this website. The same goes for any personal blog or personal website from a person or organization that is not in a position to know. So how can we effectively use the internet for in-depth research, while avoiding some potential pitfalls? Check out the links below for tips on evaluating the credibility of internet sources.
