This chapter investigates the rich and diverse pre-Columbian Native societies in North America. The regional Native American cultures are presented with a focus on their influence on future North American societies. The main thesis of this chapter is that Native Americans existed in rich, diverse and sophisticated societies long before the arrival of Europeans.
