Great Britain was left with huge war debts and an un-secured frontier border in the Ohio River Valley at the close of the Seven Years War. Having booted France from North America, the British Empire found its North American colonies still under threat from Native American coalitions as well as rival European powers seeking to upset the balance of power in the Atlantic. Prime Minister George Grenville realized the importance of securing Britain's American colonies and thus introduced several acts to help raise the much needed funds for stationing troops along the Proclamation Line in America. It soon became apparent, however, that American inhabitants would not easily abide by these new measures to tax Britain's profitable colonies.
