Chapter 1, "Why Study Ethics?," responds to the reasons people, students, faculty and business men and women, frequently offer for not needing a formal course in business ethics. The chapter stresses the idea that the study of ethics will help business managers answer the questions of right and wrong that arise in everyday business situations deliberately and conscientiously. The chapter explores the difference between ethos, the beliefs and customs a culture may follow, and ethics, the reasoned analysis of those customs, as well as a reasoned defense of how we must live. Finally, the chapter points out the importance of addressing the important moral question of how we ought to live together. |
