Chapter five provides an examination of a variety of theories about the nature of work. This chapter asks students to explore the meaning and value work has for human beings. Chapter Five describes and analyzes the conventional model of work in both its classical and hedonistic interpretations and treats as well the human fulfillment and liberal models. These models allow us to take a closer look at the nature of business and they also provide an insight into the implications the nature and value of work have for what the citizens of our society can expect both of private business and government regulation of the workplace.
