PROJECT THREE: Chamber Ensemble Rehearsal

  1. Attend a rehearsal of your college/university chamber ensemble. This may be a string ensemble, brass ensemble, woodwind ensemble, or even a percussion ensemble.
    1. Check with your instructor regarding chamber ensembles at your college/university.
    2. Ask permission of the chamber ensemble members to attend one of their rehearsals.
  2. Write a review of the rehearsal.
    1. Describe the communication process used by the members of the ensemble during the rehearsal.
    2. What music was rehearsed? Name the titles and composers.
    3. Compare the rehearsal with a live concert.
    4. What additional observations do you have about this rehearsal?

PROJECT FOUR: Beethoven's Piano Music

  1. Interview a piano instructor or a student who performs or has performed the music of Ludwig van Beethoven.
    1. Ask the performer to describe Beethoven's music.
    2. Ask the performer to play a portion of a Beethoven work for you and write about the performance.
    3. Ask the performer about his or her musical background and development.
    4. Ask the performer about his or her practice habits.
