So that you can gain experience with the use of an online coding tool, you will have access for a 21-day period to CodeItRightOnline™, produced by the Medical Management Institute, a Contexo Media Company. You may use this tool, rather than code books, to select the correct ICD-9-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes for the chapter’s Case Studies.

These are the general features that are offered with a subscription:

• Print Custom Coding Books— Subscribers can create and print their own specialty-specific CPT®, HCPCS, ICD-9-CM, and RVU books.
• Coding Crosswalks— Essential coding links from CPT® codes to ICD-9-CM to HCPCS Level II codes and to Anesthesia codes.
• Articles— We have compiled articles from CMS, OIG, carriers, intermediaries, payers, and other government web sites along with newsletter articles from AMA, AHA, Decision Health, Coding Institute and others.
• Plus— LCD/NCD codes for a local state carrier, Medicare fee schedule, and, of course, CPT®, HCPCS Level II, and ICD-9-CM codes with full descriptions and our Plain English Definitions™.

Using the Online Coding Tool

Go to CodeItRightOnline™ to complete the steps you need to begin. The following screen will appear:

Enter your name, email address, and school. After you enter your information and click Submit, you will be guided to complete your account profile, a one-time process which optimizes CodeItRightOnline™ for your particular location. After accepting the AMA Agreement, you may select a specialty if desired. Then, choose your state from the pull-down list.

These actions set up your trial subscription. Now, to use the online coding tool to locate codes, click Code Search and select the appropriate code set. Next, choose the start point—usually the Index—for your code search. For example, select ICD-9-CM, Index, Disease in the Type box, enter the term fracture, and click Search. CodeItRightOnline® will return a list of the various fracture entries in the Alphabetic Index for your selection.
