Exercise 1 Go to the Arab American Institute's website (http://www.aaiusa.org/). Click on "Arab Americans" tab and then "About Arab Americans." Choose an article either from the "Who We Are" or "What We Think" sections. Write a short response to one of the articles drawing upon material from Chapter 9 as support. For example, you could choose the article on Race Classification and compare it to what we've learned about the U.S. Census Bureau. You could also choose any of the polling information from "What We Think" and write about how the next administration will or will not address the concerns of those Arab Americans who were polled. Exercise 2 Go to the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Website
(http://www.adc.org/index.php?id=124). Click on the "education" link on the left hand side. Scroll down to "Facts about Arabs and the Arab World." Create a quiz for yourself and one of your classmates utilizing a blank world map (an Internet search and print out). Both of you attempt to correctly name and locate all 22 countries which make up the Arab world. Next, attempt to name in a list the ten countries with the largest Muslim populations. Finally, summarize by defining and differentiating between the Arab and Muslim worlds. |
