Imagine yourself a Grecian historian of the Third Century B.C.E. You hear of the of the death of a great King's death in an empire, which was once part of Alexander the Great's domain. You decide to travel to this king's land to learn about it and it's ruler to write a eulogy about this great ruler. The king's grandfather started the empire after the withdraw of Alexander the Great from the western portion of the Indian subcontinent. consolidated the kingdoms and expanded further west to form the Mauryan Empire. Chandragupta's grandson was famous for his conversion from murderously ambitious royal to a philosopher king. Much of your insights in the king and the success of his rule is found in the Rock Edits. What might have you learned about the succession of Mauryan rulers. What do they tell you about the Buddhist religion he helped spread and how his philosophy helped contribute to the success of his empire.
