This clip provides an interesting insight into the fact that playwrights are extremely conscious of the effects that their plays have on the audience. Indeed, one of them is greatly concerned with an audience leaving "changed," different than when they arrived at the theater. This can only happen when the audience exercises its "willing suspension of disbelief" while simultaneously maintaining the appropriate "aesthetic distance." What sort of experiences have you had with any of the arts that has even slightly changed the way you look at the world? Would the liveness of a theatrical experience, the chemistry between audience and performer, intensify this transformation? If so, in what way?
