Chapter Seven discusses the various viewpoints or genres that can be employed in a dramatic script.

After reading this chapter you should:

Have a basic understanding of the two main genres: tragedy and comedy.

Be aware of the influence of the social climate of a historic period on the prominence of tragedies in drama.

Be familiar with the differences between traditional and modern tragedies.

Have an understanding of the characteristics and different forms of comedy.

Have a knowledge of the other genres: heroic drama, melodrama, domestic or Bourgeois drama, and tragicomedy.

Know the difference between the Shakespearean tragicomedy and modern tragicomedy.
